Just had the soles on another pair of Doc's go. Bought replacements. Have to break them in. It's funny, Doc's are one of the few things I spend money on in terms of clothes - there are cheaper boots out there, but they last me well, and are part of my uniform. |

Finished my Gokstad bed. Well, the frame. http://www.flickr.com/photos/26231699@N02/May tidy it up - it's abit rough in places, but not bad for a first attempt, and should be able to sleep on it at november crown. I used slightly under 1" fence palings for the slats, and I'm worried they have alittle too much flex. I'll have to see. |

Meme
Say "Words!" in a comment and I'll give you five words that make me think of you. Tell me about them in a post in your journal. I got these from [info]mmy_me . *Family *Service *Armies *Home ownership *Shooting hmmm Family I have mixed feelings about family - on one level, my family are terribly important. On another, I often feel like we aren't as connected as some families. At least part of this is my fault. Funnily enough, I seem to be growing up to be my father. I also seem to find myself looking enviously at others families - I haven't formed my own yet. Service I'm a peer for service in the SCA. It's a pretty defining concept for me -I've been on club committee's almost continuously since I was about 12. I like to help. I like to make the game better for other people. It also fits in my my personal romantic ideal of chivalry. Someone once said to me that I did stuff so people would have to be nice to me. There's an element of that I guess, but I feel pretty strongly that any volunteer group requires everyone to pitch in, and I try to be willing to help out. Sometimes this makes me a doormat, and that's something I've worked on over the last few years. I think I've struck a good balance. Armies I play miniature wargames. I collect and paint the models for them. It's been a hobby where my interest has shifted over the years - I was quite a competitive gamer, then periods of mainly focusing on painting. Now I'm enjoying a hobby I find rewarding on several levels, without pushing myself to be competitive. Home Ownership I love my house :-) It has it's own challenges - when something goes wrong, I can't just call the landlord. And I'm not into renovation or home maintenance as something I find personally rewarding. But it's mine. My own little place to stand. Increasingly, I'm becoming jealous of my personal space - financial realities would make it difficult to live by myself, but in other ways I'd like to. Shooting I've always wanted to learn to shoot. My families heritage is farming, and a rifle is an important tool in that lifestyle. It just always seemed something I should learn to do. After years of friends saying they'd let me have ago, but never getting round to it, I went to a target club with a friend. I've found it to be alot of fun actually. I've joined the club, and put in for my firearms license. |

I'm still alive. Taken up small bore target shooting, which is a lot of fun. Still don't know how seriously I want to take it. Other than that - work is busy, SCA very quiet. Finding a bit of enthusiasm to play/paint wargames stuffs, which is nice. Bought the new space hulk - need to have a game with someone. |
